Our Community

Ōtorohanga is a north King Country town at the southern end of the Waikato region in the North Island of New Zealand, having a population of 2600 not counting those living in the surrounding farming district. It is located 53 kilometres south of Hamilton and 18 kilometres north of Te Kuiti, on the Waipa River.
The meaning of the name Ōtorohanga.
Ō: food for a journey;
torohanga: to cause to extend over a distance.
There is a legend of a chief who was on his way to Taupomoana, and prayed that his meagre supply of food would stretch to last the full journey.
Ōtorohanga is home to the world famous Kiwi House & Native Bird Park, and has also successfully branded itself as New Zealand's official Kiwiana capital.
Ōtorohanga is on a major tourist route - Waitomo Caves Village and an amazing range of tourism and adventure attractions are only 15 minutes from the centre of town.
